GOVT RELEASES K2.8M FOR DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

Secretary to the Treasury FELIX NKULUKUSA has disclosed that last week Government released over 2.8-billion kwacha to finance developmental programs and public service delivery as approved in the 2022 National Budget.

Mr. NKULUKUSA says the released funds include 543.4 million kwacha towards procurement of drugs and medical supplies in various public health institutions while hospital operations received 67-million.

He says this is in addition to the 650-million kwacha released for procurement of drugs and medical supplies in February.

In a statement availed to ZNBC News in Lusaka, Mr. NKULUKUSA said the funds also include 355.4 million kwacha to the Public Service Pension Fund to facilitate payment of dues to retirees under its pension scheme.

He said the ongoing implementation of the Social Cash Transfer Programme received 169.3 million kwacha.

Of the released funds the Farmer Input Support Program got 100 million kwacha to settle outstanding arrears to suppliers of fertilizer and seed for the current season.

Mr. NKULUKUSA revealed that the disbursed funds include the 805-million kwacha for Constituency Development Fund -CDF- projects and 694.5 million kwacha for various projects and general government operations.

He called on spending agencies to ensure that funds are absorbed and utilised on budgeted projects and programmes – in a timely, efficient and effective manner in order to achieve Government’s 2022 set transformational objectives.

Mr. NKULUKUSA further stated that the Ministry of Finance will embark on a countrywide data collection programme to ensure evidence-based monitoring and tracking of budgetary spending targets as they compare with actual deliverables on the ground.
