Govt officials must be compelled to declare their assets – ACC

The Anti-Corruption Commission -ACC- says senior government officials must be compelled to declare their assets in a bid to address the trend of unjustified wealth.

ACC Chairperson MUSA MWENYE says it is not right that currently Permanent Secretaries and other controlling officers are not compelled to declare their assets.

Meanwhile Mr. MWENYE has demanded the recovery of stolen government assets and national resources.

He has also emphasised the need to heighten the fight against corruption as espoused by the Eighth National Development Plan.

Mr. MWENYE said this in LUSAKA on Wednesday during the Law Development Commission’s Legal Seminar on the effectiveness of the Order on unjustified Wealth in Zambia.

At the same function, Zambia Law Development Commission Chairperson RUTH CHIBBABBUKA called for concerted efforts in the fight against corruption and money laundering.
