Govt not reviewing Zambia Airways principle agreement

By Ruth Chayinda-Transport and Logistics Minister, FRANK TAYALI says government will not review the principle shareholders agreement signed with Ethiopian airlines.

Mr. TAYALI says the fundamental principles will not change in the Zambia Ethiopia deal.

He however says government through the industrial development corporation -IDC- is reviewing the attendants agreement to ensure they are equitable and do not disadvantage the Zambian government.

Mr. TAYALI says the review commenced but is focused on two agreements entered into by Zambia and Ethiopia which looks at the expertise support contract and technical service agreement.

He however says the two arrangements do not have a direct bearing in the launch of the airline.

Mr. TAYALI further says the Government through the IDC is ready to resolve any related issues before the launch of the airline.

The Minister notes that his ministry at no time made a statement that the Government will discontinue the Zambia Ethiopia deal.

He said this when he responded to questions raised by Kantanshi Member of Parliament ANTHONY MUMBA who wanted to know whether the Zambia -Ethiopia deal will be a win win situation.

Mr. TAYALI however said his office is aware that the previous Government procured 4 aircrafts believed to be in Russia for the establishment of the airline.

The Minister revealed that the matter is under investigation.

Mr. TAYALI said Zambia Airways will focus on domestic routes which will have its maiden flight on the December ONE.

He said Government will give the necessary support to the airline to enable it grow and start taking regional flights.
