GOVT, KAPESIKA ENERGY SIGN MOU

By Wilson Mulinda:

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has signed a memorandum of understanding with Kapesika energy and petroleum to kickstart the fuel tanker truck youth empowerment programme.

Youth and Sports Permanent Secretary John Phiri says this is one of the many youth empowerment programmes being implemented under the 4 hundred and 70 million-kwacha multi sectoral youth empowerment programme.

Dr. Phiri says the petroleum sector plays a crucial role in the running of Zambia’s economy as most sectors use petroleum as an energy requirement.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lusaka today, Dr. Phiri said it is regrettable that there are few youths participating in the transportation of fuel despite the 50 percent policy signed by President Edgar Lungu.

He said it is Government’s desire to see many youths engaged in the petroleum transportation industry.

Meanwhile, Kapesika Petroleum Executive Director Kapembwa Sikazwe said his company has decided to partner with Government to supplement efforts in addressing youth unemployment.

Mr. Sikazwe said the petroleum industry has many benefits that can uplift the livelihood of youths countrywide.
