GOVT HAS NOT BACKTRACKED ON PROMISES– VEEP

Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO says the UPND Government has NOT backtracked on the promises it made to citizens which is to better their lives.

Ms. NALUMANGO says Government will continue to make strides to ensure the economy becomes stable so that benefits are seen by all.

She says among the benefits that will spur from the stable economy is appreciation of the kwacha and reduction in the cost of fuel.

Ms NALUMANGO notes that government is focused on ensuring that the money saved from the removal of subsidizes will be channeled to other critical areas such as constituency Development Fund, education and Health.

She said this in parliament when responding to a question raised by the leader of the opposition and Mporokoso Member of Parliament BRIAN MUNDUBILE during the Vice Presidents question time.

Mr. MUNDUBILE wanted to find out why the UPND Government is not fulfilling its campaign promises.

The Vice President said it is unfortunate that the past administration continued to borrow so as to subsidize the price of fuel adding that government has chosen a different path way which is painful in the short term but will give greater benefits in the l
ng term.

And when responding to Pambashe Member of Parliament RONALD CHITOTELA who wanted to find out why Government wants to increase some taxes, Mrs. NALUMANGO noted that some taxes will go up so that the country can address the current level of indebtedness.

She said through the taxes collected, Government will be able to redistribute the resources to needy areas.

Meanwhile, the Vice President said the Government has started earning the respect of the international community because of how it is dealing with the debt.

Mrs. NALUMANGO was responding to a question raised by the Zambezi East MP BRIAN KAMBITA who raised concern at the levels of country’s debt.
