GOVT. EMBARKS ON PRODUCTIVITY SENSITISATION

By Brian Mwale- Government has embarked on a countrywide campaign to promote enhanced productivity in the civil service as part of implementing the National Productivity Policy.

Ministry of Labour Permanent Secretary CHANDA KAZIYA says the move is in response to President EDGAR LUNGU’s call that civil service operations should not be business as usual but deliver to citizens.

He says the essence of the national productivity policy is to bring serious streamlining in the public service and within the formal sector to benefit from the services.

Addressing civil servants in Kasama District, Mr. KAZIYA said enhanced service delivery is key to the country’s social and economic development.

He appealed to civil servants to change their mindset towards their work and acquaint themselves with provisions of the policy.

Mr. KAZIYA advised the civil servants to change their attitude towards work and challenge the status quo instead of being complacent with their situation.

The Labour permanent secretary also revealed that government will be employing digital ways of assessing performance of civil servants, a move from the paper-based assessments.

And Civil Service Commission Vice Chairperson HILARY CHIPANGO who is part of the delegation commended civil servants in Northern province for improving on their service delivery.

Mr. CHIPANGO said government is now looking at providing more incentives for civil servants to further enhance their productivity levels.

He cited the fast confirmation of civil servants and debt swap as among the incentives that government is providing as it looks at improving their welfare through engagement of the 15 public sector unions.
