Govt distributes 11,000 litres of chemicals to kill army worms

By Rueben Chomba-Agriculture Minister Micheal Katambo has disclosed that government has distributed over 11,000 litres of chemicals to help eradicate armyworms across the country.Mr Katambo, however, says government will procure more chemicals to help fight armyworms for the 2019-2020 farming season.He told ZNBC News in an interview that the ministry is on high alert to control armyworms and ensure that farmers do not lose out on their produce.And Mr. Katambo says the ministry is engaging the Ministry of Finance and Secretary to Treasury over money owed to agro dealers and farmers who supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency – FRA.The Minister said Government owes K374million to agro dealers while farmers who supplied maize to FRA are owed K24million.Mr. Katambo says government is treating the matter with urgency and that money will be paid to farmers and suppliers once funds are made available.
