GOVT DETERMINED TO TAKE SPECIALIZED HEALTH PERSONNEL TO RURAL AREAS

Government says it is determined to address the challenge of specialized health personnel and lack of equipment in rural areas.

Health Minister, SLYVIA MASEBO also acknowledged that most patients are referred to urban hospitals for further treatment due to lack of specialists.

Ms. MASEBO was responding to a concern raised by Western Province Permanent Secretary SIMONO AKAPELWA who told the Minister that most times patients from Lewanika and Senanga hospitals are given referrals.

The Health Minister was speaking when she called Mr. AKAPELWA at his office.

The minister was accompanied by a team of Zambian Flying Doctors Services and specialized doctors from Czech Republic who are in the country for 12 days to conduct specialize surgeries on patients at Lewanika General hospital .

Meanwhile, Czech Republic Ambassador to Zambia, PAVEL PROCHA’ZKA said the team of doctors have been conducting surgeries at Lewanika General hospital since Tuesday this week.

And, Ms. MASEBO disclosed that Government has started decentralizing health services to local authorities in a phased manner.

She said this when she called on the BRE Ngambela MUKELA MANYANDO.

Meanwhile, Mr. MANYANDO appealed to government to increase a number of health facilities in the province.
