Govt Consider Underground Water for Irrigation

By Masauso Mkwayaya

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says there is a need to map underground water resources to support irrigation programmes to respond to the drought that has affected crop yields.

President HICHILEMA says the country needs to know which areas have ground water that can be used for irrigation.

Speaking when he met a delegation of  Finnish Members of Parliament who paid a courtesy call on him at the State House this afternoon, President HICHILEMA said Zambia will engage the expertise of Finland in geological mapping of groundwater.

Meanwhile, Finish MP’s delegation Leader KRISTA MIKKONEN said the Finish private sector has a growing interest to invest in Zambia’s Forestry, Sustainable Mining and Meteorology sectors.

Ms. MIKKONEN also called for strengthening of relations between Zambia and Finland.
