Govt clears pension arrears

Paul Shalala – Government has cleared pension arrears owed to retirees by the Public Service Pensions Fund -PSPF- from years back up to 31st December, 2021.

Chief Government Spokesperson CHUSHI KASANDA says 2.6 billion kwacha has been paid to retirees under PSPF.

Ms. KASANDA, who is also Information and Media Minister, says Government is determined to clear the outstanding dues for the year 2022, amounting to 1.1 billion kwacha.

In a statement made available to ZNBC News, Ms KASANDA said under the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund, Government has paid 300 million kwacha between last year and this year, leaving a balance of 150 million kwacha.

She said in this year’s supplementary budget, Government has made a provision of One billion kwacha to PSPF and 150 million kwacha to LASF for payment of pension arrears.

Ms KASANDA said since assuming office, the New Dawn Government decided to pay off all retirees and released money to the Public Service Pensions Fund and the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund for payment of pension arrears.

She said the clearance of the outstanding dues is in line with Government’s desire to restore dignity in the lives of retirees after working so hard and for so many years for the country.
