GOVT CAUTIONS ILLEGAL BOREHOLE DRILLERS

BY MARK ZILIGONE

Water Development and Sanitation Minister MIKE MPOSHA has cautioned companies involved in illegal drilling of boreholes that huge sanctions will be placed against them once found.

Mr. MPOSHA says the illegal drilling of boreholes can lead to uncontrolled harvest of ground water thereby depleting it.

He says the Ministry has continued to engage the Drillers Association of Zambia to ensure harvest of ground water is properly coordinated.

Mr. MPOSHA has further urged all those that have illegally drilled boreholes to register them with the Water Resources Management Authority-WARMA before they are visited by the law.

He told ZNBC News in an interview that registration of the boreholes will be free with effect from January 1, 2022 and people should take advantage of the development.

Mr. MPOSHA said the free registration on domestic boreholes has come following the removal of the 2-hundred and 50 Kwacha borehole levy by the Government.
