By Clinton Masumba-

Government has called for active participation of stakeholders in the Mining Industry towards review of the Minerals Resources Development Policy of 2013.

Copperbelt Permanent Secretary AUGUSTINE KASONGO said this during the
Provincial Consultation on the review of the minerals resources development policy of 2013 in Kitwe.

Mr. KASONGO said with government projecting to produce three million tonnes of Copper per year in the next ten years, there is need to put in place policies that support such initiatives.

He observed that the Minerals Resources Development Policy of 2013 has proved ineffective because mining has evolved over the last ten years.

Mr. KASONGO said with the Mines and Minerals Development Act number 11, of 2015 also being reviewed, there is need to ensure policies are tailored in a manner that benefits citizens.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Mines Safety Director FRED BANDA said the current policy is outdated and there is need to develop local content regulation.
