GOVT ASSURES UN

By Mary Mwiinga:Community Development Minister Olipa Phiri has assured the United Nations that social protection is a top priority on governments development agenda.Mrs. Phiri says therefore government has started the process of developing a National Volunteer policy because they play a critical role in the implementation of various social protection programmes.She says the policy is meant to provide for the coordination, guidance and effective management of volunteer’s engagement s in the development of the country.She was speaking when United Nations Volunteers Deputy Executive Coordinator Toily Kurbanov and his delegation paid a courtesy call on her at her office.Meanwhile Mr. Kurbanov says he is delighted to know that Zambia is developing a policy to examine the welfare of the volunteers.Mr. Kurbanov further says he is confident that government will next year share the progress made in the development of the Sustainable development goals.
