GOVT ADDRESSES MEASLES OUTBREAK

By Patricia Banda-

Health Minister SYLVIA MASEBO says Government is taking measures aimed at addressing the outbreak of measles in MUSHINDAMO district.

Ms. MASEBO says some of the measures include immunization of children under five years, health promotions and education.

The Minister says the Zambia National Public Health Institute working with the provincial health team has made rapid assessment to also immunize all children under 15 years in the areas affected and along the border.

Ms. MASEBO has attributed the measles outbreak to poor access to under five clinic due to poor road network.

She also explains that there is increased movement of people between the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC and Zambia making it a hot spot for disease outbreaks.

The Health Minister said this when she presented a Ministerial statement to the National Assembly giving a status on measles outbreak in MUSHINDAMO.
