Gold scam suspects appear in court

Four suspects in the Gold scam have appeared in the LUSAKA Magistrate court.

The four are SHADRECK KASANDA, JIM BELEMU, OSWALD DIANGAMO and PATRICK KAWANU.

The suspects who appeared before LUSAKA Chief Magistrate DAVIES CHIBWILI in Chambers could however NOT take plea because their indictment needs to be amended.

The other nine suspects, who are foreigners, have not appeared in court on grounds that they have not been formally charged.

State Prosecutor, GRACELIA MULENGA confirmed this before Magistrate CHIBWILI.

But Defense Counsel BOTHA NKULA said it is not procedural for the state to bring to court the four accused persons to the exclusion of their nine suspected accomplices.

And speaking to journalists, another defence lawyer, MARTHA MUSHIPE demanded that the accused must be granted bail.
