Gold scam jet to be forfeited to the state

The Director of Public Prosecutions -DPP- has applied that the Global Express Jet and over five Million dollars seized in the Airport Gold scam be forfeited to the State.

DPP GILBERT PHIRI, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Court to grant the forfeiture of the properties, based on a non -conviction forfeiture Order.

Other assets that the DPP has applied to be forfeited to the state include 602 pieces of brass pellets, five pistols with 126 rounds of ammunition, eleven pistol magazines, a drilling machine and a Central Processing unit.

The properties are deemed to be proceeds of crime.

In the Skeleton Arguments, Mr. PHIRI has relied on Order 30 Rules 15 and 17 of the High Court.

He has further cited Sections 29 and 31 of the Forfeiture of Proceed of Crime Act Number 19 of 2010.

Meanwhile, in an affidavit, Mr. PHIRI has revealed that five EGYPTIANS attempted to smuggle from ZAMBIA to EGYPT, 602 pieces of brass pellets valued at over Seven Million dollars.

Drug Enforcement Commission –DEC- Assistant Commissioner, MARTIN CHITAMBA has sworn the affidavit on behalf of the DPP.

Five suspects who include two LUSAKA Businessmen SHADRICK KASANDA and JIM BELEMU, Commercial Pilot PATRICK KAWANU, Police official ROBSON MOONGA and Security Officer FRANCIS MATEYO are appearing in court over the matter.

They are facing espionage charges.
