By Wilson Mulinda

The Global Forum has commenced the induction of Zambia  with the aim of helping the country to implement the international standards of transparency and exchange of information for tax purposes.

Zambia in January 2024 became the 171st country globally and the 39th in Africa to join the global forum and will benefit through assistance in enhancing domestic resource mobilization and the fight against illicit financial flows.

Speaking during the Global Forum national awareness raising seminar in Lusaka, Zambia Revenue Authority ZRA Commissioner General DINGANI BANDA said joining the global forum is a significant step  in promoting transparency and accountability in tax matters.

Mr. BANDA said the move will put Zambia on the map as a country committed to promoting a fair, equitable and transparent tax system.

Meanwhile, Global Forum Head Capacity Building and Outreach HAKIM HAMAD in his presentation said Zambia will be able to apply the two international standards for exchange of Information such as Exchange of Information on Request EOIR.

Mr. HAMAD said this will allow the tax authority to make specific requests to other tax authorities for information that allows them to progress their tax investigations.

And Senior Tax Policy Advisor ERVIS TCHOUATA said the seminar will ensure the implementation of tax transparency standards, through capacity building for ZRA and other stakeholders.
