GASSING:DEPLOY MORE SECURITY OFFICERS – CHIEF

Chief Lubunda of the Chishinga people Mwense District of Luapula province has appealed to government to deploy more security personnel in areas where unscrupulous people are reportedly gassing innocent individuals.Speaking at his palace yesterday, The Traditional leader told ZANIS News that the criminals gassing people’s homes  are not only in urban areas but that they have reached even rural areas.Chief Lubunda said one of his subjects on Saturday was allegedly sprayed with the chemicals a situation which has instilled fear among his subjects.The traditional leader has since requested government to send some military officers to Mwense district to camp for at least three months so that perpetrators of such crimes can be arrested.Chief Lubunda has since implored the security wing and the Community Crime Prevention Unit -CCPU- to intensify patrols in his chiefdom but cautioned against taking the law into their own hands.He said his subjects should refrain from instant mob justice but hand over people suspected to be perpetrators of such crimes to the security wing to help with further investigations.Chief Lubunda said if this continues will negatively affect the economy of the country as it will instill fear in the investors and may also contribute to voter apathy as the country heads towards the elections.Meanwhile, residents of Lundunda Chiefdom have resorted to spending nights as a group for fear of being gassed when they are alone.But when contacted for a comment, Luapula Province Police CommissionerElias Chushi said his office has not received any tangible report of gassing from Mwense district.
