Free Foot And Mouth Vaccination On

Government has embarked on free Foot and Mouth Disease -FMD- Vaccination exercise.Lusaka Province Veterinary officer Patricia Bwalya has since called on Livestock farmers in the province to take advantage of the free vaccination program the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock is conducting in five selected districts to effectively prevent Foot and Mouth disease.Speaking during an interview with NAIS in Lusaka, Dr Bwalya said with the increasing cattle population in Lusaka province, government is targeting to vaccinate over 31 thousand herds of cattle mainly in foot and mouth disease prone areas to create an FMD free zone.She has asked all livestock farmers to cooperate and work with veterinary officers if the disease is to be curbed.And speaking during an on-going vaccination exercise, Chongwe District Veterinary Officer Purity Mayembe said the district has so far received overwhelming response among livestock farmers and has vaccinated more than three thousand herds of cattle.Dr. Mayembe said the vaccination exercise was necessitated following the outbreak of foot and mouth disease which occurred in the eastern part of Chongwe District.
