“FRA IS NOT THE ONLY BUYER”

Livingstone District Cooperative Union Chairperson Rwinnick Mapanza has called on small scale farmers not to worry about the postponement of the maize buying by the Food Reserve Agency -FRA.
Reacting to the FRA’s postponement of maize buying due to high moisture content, Mr. Mapanza has told ZNBC News in Livingstone that the agency is a buyer like many others on the market and farmers have a choice either to sell to the agency or other buyers.
He says what is important is for farmers to utilize bargaining skills to have a better price for their maize produce as they do with other crop produce on the market.
Mr. Mapanza has also noted that government needs to put in place a policy that will help guide farmers in maize marketing so that they know the price they will sell the maize at before they even decide to cultivate.
