Former DC for Mpika arrested for breach of peace

POLICE in Mpika have arrested former District Commissioner for Mpika and four others for allegedly threatening violence on supporters of the opposition UPND.

Muchinga province police chief Auxensio Daka said Catherine Chileshe, of Chitulika village and the others were arrested on Tuesday and that they have been charged with the conduct likely to cause the breach of peace.

Mr Daka said the matter was reported to the police by Joseph Nkamba, of Trench town who said that Chileshe allegedly told him that he would be sorted out for supporting UPND, now that the PF was in power.

Further, Mr Daka said that Chileshe, on September 5, led a group of suspected PF cadres in carrying a coffin covered in UPND Chitenge to a shop belonging to Mr Teries Kunda, the losing candidate for Mfuwe constituency in the just ended general elections.

He said all the suspects have since appeared in court.
