Forest Rangers remain unbeaten after 1-0 win over Power Dynamos

Forest Rangers have continued their steady rise on the log as they move to sixth place following a 1-0 win over Power Dynamos in a rescheduled Super League encounter on Thursday.

Fole Malembe came into the match looking to maintain their unbeaten run while Power Dynamos were looking to return to winning ways following a 1-1 draw with Kabwe Warriors over the weekend.

It was an evenly contested affair from the word go, Power Dynamos had the first real chance in the 15th following some good work by Kennedy Musonda but there was no one to make a meaningful connection and they could only get a corner.

Four minutes later, Spencer Sautu was gifted a glorious chance as Alex ‘Bazo’ Ng’onga brought in a good ball which was headed back across the goal by Godfrey Ngwenya to find Sautu only for him to head it directly at Mathias Kigonya.

Forest Rangers took the lead in the dying minutes of the first stanza against the run of play, Quadri Kola slotting home from inside the area after a good cross from the right-wing found him unmarked inside the box.

Power Dynamos pushed for an equalizer and almost found it in the 77th minute when substitute Dave Daka found himself unmarked inches from the line only for him to somehow fluff his lines with only the keeper to beat failing to even force a save from Kigonya.

Alex Ng’onga was also getting frustrated with the status quo and started forcing shots but everything he tried was blocked.

Luka Chamanga tried a shot from outside the area six minutes to time but Kigonya made a brilliant save to make sure his team walked away with maximum points after the 90 minutes. Forest Rangers remain unbeaten so far this season with four wins and four draws from eight games.

Power Dynamos coach Perry Mutapa felt his team should have won the match but lack a quality finisher as they create a lot of chances.

“The display was there, they scored one, we could have scored six goals in this game, The most worrying thing in football is if you not creating chances but if you creating chances who do you need? A quality finisher, do we have a quality finisher, the answer is no,” he said.

“Look at that miss by Dave Daka, he does not have the confidence, So what are we saying as a team we need a quality finisher. So if we had a quality finisher this match would have ended 4-1 or 5-1.”
