Firms urged to consider consumer interests

Government has urged service providers to put the needs of consumers first before hiking prices.

Information and Media Permanent Secretary THABO KAWANA says before increasing the prices of various commodities, service providers should prioritise the interest of their consumers.

Mr. KAWANA’s remarks come after MultiChoice Zambia announced an increase in the subscription packages effective April 1st, 2024.

The Information and Media Permanent Secretary who visited the MultiChoice offices in Lusaka to appreciate the situation on the ground said despite content provision coming at a high cost, the firm should find a way to strike a balance.

Meanwhile, MultiChoice Zambia Managing Director LEAH KOOMA attributed the upward adjustment to various issues such as cost of acquiring international and local content.
