FAZ Awaits Govt Response On Coach Payment

FAZ is waiting for government’s response on the payment mode of the next Chipolopolo coach to announce who takes over the national team.

FAZ last week settled for Belgian former Cameroon assistant coach Sven Vandenbroeck as Chipolopolo coach but could not officially announce as they are still waiting for a response from government who would be paying his salary as has always been the case with the Chipolopolo coaching job.

Several foreign coaches, among them Portuguese Rui Aguas who famously guided tiny Island nation Cape Verde to their maiden AfCON finals in 2015 applied for the job but did not make the final shortlist that included Vandenbroeck and Irishman Jonathan Mackinstry.

Impeccable sources at Football House said FAZ settled for the Belgian but could not immediately make an announcement because it would be injurious to government as they had not yet responded to the request regarding taking up payment of his salary.

“Yes, we have settled for Vandenbroeck but we cannot announce because the other guy (Mackinstry) is still in the running for the job. It all depends on how much government is willing to pay based on the demands of the coaches,” the sources.

“But by now, we could have announced but the government has not yet committed itself to paying the salary so we are just waiting for the government we will announce as soon as government responds,” the source added.

FAZ president Andrew Kamanga when contacted just said: “We are still discussing with key stakeholders.”

Chipolopolo has been without a coach since Wedson Nyirenda resigned early May.

FAZ is under pressure to hire a coach before the 2019 AfCON qualifiers resume in September.
