FARMERS HOPEFUL LOCAL FERTILIZER SUPPLIERS WILL OFFER FAVOURABLE PRICES FOLLOWING MEETING WITH PRESIDENT HICHILEMA

By Prudence Siabana

The National Association for Small Holder Farmers is hopeful that following the meeting between fertilizer suppliers and President Hakainde Hichilema, local suppliers will not exaggerate the prices of the commodity on the market ahead of the 2022/2023 farming season.

On Tuesday this week, President Hichilema held a closed door meeting with fertilizer suppliers and the Zambia National Farmers Union -ZNFU- officials, to find solutions to some of the challenges they face in the industry particularly the high cost of fertilizer and other agriculture inputs.

Commenting on this development, Association Executive Director Dr Frank Kayula says it is a well known fact that the Russia Ukraine war has had an impact on fertilizer production in many countries of which Zambia has not been spared.

He adds that despite this challenge at hand, local suppliers should find a way of reducing the prices of fertilizer as opposed to using this situation to increase the price of the commodity.
