Farmers Call For The Resignation Of Jervis Zimba

Some farmers have expressed no confidence in ZAMBIA NATIONAL FARMERS UNION president Jervis Zimba for issuing contradictory statements to the media.

Last year Mr Zimba Issued a statement saying Zambia will be importing maize claiming that their isn’t enough maize in the country, this was in form on a direct attack to the former Minister of Agriculture Dora Siliya whom he seemed to have wanted her to fail by all means.

But his own words caught up with him yesterday when ZNBC aired a news item saying the ZNFU president “Zambia will have enough maize harvest this season and their will be no need to import maize, this is the same mouth that a few months ago said zambia will need to import maize as this season will not harvest enough maize.

These two contradictory statements he has issued in a few months have earned him no confidence from many good farmers who have called for him to reign immediately.

“The two statements our president issues are contradictory, he can’t even trust his own words, a few months ago he said zambia will need to import maize, yesterday he was on znbc saying we will have a lot of maize, the statement he had issued saying zambia had no enough maize made a lot of us maize farmers loose hope with a lot giving up, some didn’t say their products but choose to store it because it was believed the country won’t have enough maize, but yesterday the same mouth that warned of a shortage was on TV, saying they will be a lot of maize this season, he is a risk to food security and he must go, he has failed his job” some farmers spoken to said.

But in his usual way of turning around, Mr Zimba has today issued a media statement claiming the national Broadcaster ZNBC misquoted him in the main news on Saturday 24th February 2018 where in his own words he said there will be a lot of maize harvest this season contrary to the words he said a few months ago saying zambia will need to import maize because their isn’t enough maize in the country.
