By Tinkerbel Mwila

A small-scale farmer of Luanshya has rejected K35, 000 compensation from Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company.

Elvis Chikwati is one of the farmers who has been affected by the laying of water pipes by Kafubu water and Sewerage Company from Luanshya to Ndola under the Kafulafuta Water and sanitation improvement project.

However, Mr. Chikwati who is into growing of cash crops has explained that the K35, 000 compensation is nothing compared to what he makes on a monthly basis.

He has advised the water utility to instead divert the pipes so that him and the other affected 60 small scale farmers can continue with their agriculture activities as it is their livelihood.

When contacted over the matter, Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company Planning and Development Manager, Paul Billima declined to comment on the matter.
