Failure to qualify for ABSA Cup disappoints Chipepo

Forest Rangers Coach Mwenya Chipepo says he is disappointed after his team failed to qualify for the 2024 ABSA Cup after their goalless draw with Kansanshi Dynamos in week 17.

Chipepo feels as defending Champions they should have qualified but he has now shifted his focus to the MTN Super League title.

Fole Malembe wrapped up the first half of the season with a goalless stalemate against the Mabanga Boys at Nchanga Stadium.

“As defending champions, we are very disappointed we failed to qualify for the ABSA Cup and I am sure the fans are disappointed as well but we still have the league to fight for so we will shift our focus to the league now,” Chipepo said.

Forest will start the second half of the season with a tie against Kabwe Warriors this weekend. Malembe ended the first round in ninth position with 23 points.

Record 6 time Champions ZESCO United lead the team’s that have qualified alongside, two time winners Power Dynamos, and 2013 Champions Red Arrows.

Others who have booked a place in the only Cup Competition in the country are 2015 finalists, Nkwazi, 2023 runners up FC MUZA, Kabwe Warriors, Nchanga Rangers and newcomers Atletico Lusaka.

Forest Rangers beat FC MUZA in the final earlier this year to lift the K700,000 rich trophy at Lusaka’s Woodlands Stadium.
