Esther Lungu foundation donates to the poor in Chongwe

ZANIS—The Esther Lungu Foundation Trust has donated 500 by 12.5 kilogram bags of mealie meal and 500 by 750 mils bottles of cooking oil worth K50,000 to the underprivileged people in Kanakantapa Ward of Chongwe District.

Speaking during the handover of the donation, Esther Lungu Foundation Trust Programs Coordinator Mildred Chumbwe said the donation will also help vulnerable people in the Ward especially school going children whose parents are struggling to provide food for them.

Ms. Chumbwe said the First lady Easter Lungu and the trust is passionate about uplifting the lives of vulnerable people especially women and children in rural areas.

“The first lady has taken it upon herself to help vulnerable people in rural communities with little resources,” Ms Chumbwe stated.

Ms Chumbwe said the First lady Esther Lungu and the Trust is passionate about uplifting the lives of vulnerable people especially women and children in rural areas. And Chongwe District Commissioner Robster Mwanza commended the Trust for reaching out to the less privileged such as children who recently resumed classes.

Mr Mwanza said the food items will enable school going children concentrate during classes as most of them fail to concentrate because of hunger.

“Most of the children in Kanakantapa come from homes headed by farm labourers and caretakers who cannot afford to provide them with proper meals. This donation will help to feed the children especially now that they have opened schools,” Mr Mwanza said.

Speaking during the same event, Kanakantapa Ward Councilor, Hilda Musopa also thanked First Lady Esther Lungu and her Trust for the kind gesture adding that it will go a long way in addressing the health and nutritional needs of the beneficiaries.
