ELECTRONIC REGISTRATION OF NUMBER PLATES SET FOR APRIL

 
The Road Transport and Safety Agency -RTSA-says the electronic registration of number plates for all vehicles is expected to start in April this year.
Road Transport and Safety Agency -RTSA Head of Public Relations Fredrick Mubanga however says the agency will ensure a regulatory impact assessment is carried out as well as sensitization of motorists.
Mr. Mubanga says the agency has about 6 hundred and 80 thousand vehicles that need to be updated.
He told ZNBC news in a telephone interview that the agency through the exercise will be able to establish if 60 percent of the vehicles in its data base exist because they do not show that they pay road fitness.
Mr. Mubanga explained that electronic registration will be the first update of registration of vehicles from the time the Agency was established in 2006.
He said the move is established for under the Road traffic act.
