Following the just ended 2016 General Election, a new parliament has emerged with more new comers and youthful members likely to populate the benches.

The last general elections since 2006, was a three-horse race between the MMD, Patriotic Front and the United Party for National Development  (UPND) and seats were shared that way.

But in this Election, the race was reduced to a two-horse race between the PF and UPND.

The governing party, the Patriotic Front has emerged with the majority seats of 93 seats (85 constituency seats and the 8 nominated allowed by the President ).

The UPND has beaten its own record, even the glory days of 2001 when it garnered 48 seats.

The UPND has benefited largely from the death of the MMD as the seats the party held in Central, North-Western and Western Provinces have gone to the UPND.

The party has grown from 19 seats in 2011 to 58 Seats in 2016.

The PF managed to obtain the few seats the MMD held in Muchinga, Northern Provinces but gained more from the seats in Eastern Province.
