EIZ: Lusaka Ndola Dual Carriage Should Not Gobble $600m

The Lusaka-Ndola cost of dual carriage way should not cost more than $600million!
“You can build so many high-way roads in this amount”
Engineering Institute of Zambia says the Lusaka -Ndola 321km X2 (300km to Lusaka and 21km including by-pass in Kabwe, Kapiri Mposhi and Fisenge) should cost about $600million.
So who has pegged the price at $1.2billion making it $3.8 m per kilometer the most expensive road project in the region!
Government says the costing includes advanced toll plazas, city bypasses for both Kabwe and Kapiri, expected compensation for land, an information centre for data collection, emergency response services and side/ service roads.
But still doesn’t go to justify the huge cost
So simply dividing the $1.2 billion by 321 km is…. rather rather…. to say the least.
In Zambia roads are constructed at $1million per kilometer when international and regional standard is $100,000 per kilometer
For a standard 8m wide road compacted to 93% AASHITTO Density test the international market rate is Usd 100,000.00 assuming usd 1.00 is equal to k8. How many on is Lusaka to Ndola ?
Are they saying it is Usd 3,700.00 per metre or K29,600.00 per metre. Where on Earth. Usd 3.7 per mm or k29.6 per mm
Even 1 concrete stone is mostly 19mm– —19 x usd 3.7 equals usd 70.3 or K562.40. Where on Earth can u find a 19mm concrete
stone costing K562.40
This rate can be multiplied by the number of lanes. It is therefore not true that we can have rate of usd 3.7 million unless the lanes will be 37.
No where in the world can u have 37 road lanes.
