ECZ WARNS POLITICAL PARTIES

The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- says it will NOT hesitate to punish political parties engaged in violence.

ECZ Director Electoral Operations ROYD KATONGO says it is the commission’s mandate to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections.

Mr. KATONGO says the commission has engaged Zambia Police to ensure that peace reigns before, during and after the election.

Mr. KATONGO was speaking when he featured on ZNBC’s Update in Lusaka today.

Mr KATONGO’s comments comes in a wake of political violence that occurred in Serenje where cadres from the Socialist party and UPND clashed during the campaigns for the Muchinda ward by-election .

He attributed the political violence recorded in Serenje to importation of cadres from outside the ward.
