ECZ CAPTURES 7 MILLION PROVISIONAL VOTERS

By Hannock Ksamana About seven million Zambians have managed to register as voters, ahead of the 2021 general elections next August.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- says the provisional register has 7-million and 20-thousand 749 eligible voters, captured in the voter registration exercise.

ECZ Chief Electoral Officer, Patrick Nshindano has announced today that these voters, registered under the exercise, which ended on December 20, against the projection of 9-million.

And Mr Nshindano has said 14-thousand 963 prison inmate voters were captured, out of the targeted 16-thousand eligible persons in lawful custody.

Meanwhile, ECZ Secretary and Legal Counsel, Bob Musenga has dispelled assertions that there is no legal instrument to actualise the participation of inmates as voters.

Mr Musenga has explained that the Constitutional Court, in the Godfrey Malembeka versus The Attorney General Case, expunged Section 9 of the Electoral Process Act, to pave way for inmates to participate in elections.a
