ECL WANTS MORE TRADE WITH DRC

By Brian Mwale:President Edgar Lungu had called for strengthening of trade between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC-.President Lungu says the DRC is one of Zambia’s major trading partners hence the need to tap into entrepreneurial ventures between the two countries.Giving his toast statement during the state banquet held in honour of visiting DRC President Felix Tshisekedi in Lusaka, President Lungu said he is confident that the two countries will continue to fulfill bilateral and multilateral relations which will continue improving lives of their people and the region.The Head of State also emphasised the need for African countries to speak with one voice in advancing issues of economic development, peace and security.And President Lungu also reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment in strengthening peace and security in the region even after the country hands over the chairmanship of the defence and security position in SADC.He noted that the two countries have the responsibility of continuing building relations and corporations as active members of SADC, COMESA and the International Co defence of the Great Lakes Region.President Lungu further commended his DRC counterpart for his efforts in restoring peace and security in his country and embarking on a mew social and economic path after ascending to the Presidency.And President Tshisekedi in his toast statement noted that his engagements with President Lungu have continued to show necessity to unite and be closer in addressing cultural and economic situations between the two countries.He said the similarities in languages between the two countries show that their people are one.President Tshisekedi committed to work on his mandate of strengthening regional integration.He said Africa had a vibrant young population which is key in contributing to economic development.
