ECL, ASSURES TSHISEKEDI

By Sharon Kunda:President Edgar Lungu has assured visiting Head of State Felix Tshisekedi of SADC’s support to ensure there is peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo.This was when President Lungu held private talks with Mr. Tshisekedi at State House in Lusaka today.Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Isaac Chipampe has told journalists that discussions between the two leaders mainly bordered on restoration of peace in the DRC especially in the Eastern part of that country.Mr. Chipampe says President Lungu has expressed confidence that the restoration of peace in DRC will spur trade between the two countries.He says President Lungu has assured Mr. Tshisekedi of his support and that of Zambia even after he hands over chairmanship of the SADC Troika organ on security in August.Mr. Chipampe says other leaders in the SADC region have also assured Mr. Tshisekedi of their support in ensuring peace prevails in DRC.The two leaders also discussed trade prospects between the two countries.President Lungu says he would like the two countries to formalize trade and get rid of smuggling which is affecting the two countries negatively.
