DPP yet to nod prosecution of suspected Gold scammers

The Lusaka High Court has rescheduled to November 15, 2023, possible plea in the matter, where five Zambians are charged with ESPIONAGE, in relation to the Gold scam.

Plea in this matter was earlier scheduled today but has had to be adjourned because the Director of Public Prosecutions -DPP- has not yet issued instructions for prosecution.

The five espionage suspects are Lusaka businessmen SHADRICK KASANDA and JIM BELEMU.

Others are Kenneth Kaunda International Airport -KKIA- Police Commanding Officer, ROBSON MOONGA, State Security Officer, FRANCIS MATEYO and Commercial Pilot, PATRICK KAWANU.

The five are earmarked to appear for plea before a panel of three High Court Judges, namely RUTH CHIBBABUKA, SITUMBEKO CHOCHO and CHARLES ZULU.

The accused were arrested following a Gold Scam, unearthed at the Kenneth KAUNDA International Airport on August 13, 2023, by the Drug Enforcement Commission -DEC-, aboard the plane.

On board were 602 pieces of fake GOLD worth 127 point two kilograms, mingled with five million dollars and weapons.

On the other hand the state entered a nolle prosequi in favour of five EGYPTIANS and a ZAMBIAN who were nabbed in the same alleged syndicate.

The five Egyptians are WALID BOTROS, MOUNIR AWAD, MOHAMED GOODA , YASSER ABDELGHAFOR  and MICHAEL BOTROS  while a  ZAMBIAN is chartered Accountant OSWALD DIANGAMO.
