DO NOT ENTERTAIN DPP-SINKAMBA

Opposition Green Party President PETER SINKAMBA has advised President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA not to entertain a request by Director of Public Prosecutions -DPP- LILLIAN SIYUNYI to lift her oath of secrecy so that she can speak freely to the Judicial Complaints
Commission -JCC.

Mr. SINKAMBA says the DPP’s request is unconstitutional and a trap aimed at making the President perform an illegality which can haunt him in future.

Speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in Kitwe, Mr. SINKAMBA said there is no law in the country which grants powers to the President to lift the DPP’s oath of secrecy.

He said under the law, the DPP is allowed to appear before bodies like the JCC or Parliament where she can take oath and speak freely without fear of prosecution.

Mr. SINKAMBA has advised Mrs SIYUNYI to go ahead and appear before the
Judicial Complaints Commission because her request to the President is not backed by law.

He said if the President goes ahead and grants the request to the DPP; his actions can be questioned and even lead to an impeachment motion in Parliament.

Mr. SINKAMBA said the DPP made an error and she is duty bound to go and explain herself before the JCC.
