DMMU urged to release funds for markets

Local Government and Rural Development Minister GARY NKOMBO has directed the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- to expedite the release of funds towards the completion of the Lusaka City and Simon Mwewa lane Markets.

Mr. NKOMBO says the bureaucracy in releasing resources for construction materials has delayed the completion of the two markets.

Speaking when he met Zambia National Service and DMMU officials at City Market in Lusaka today, Mr NKOMBO said President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is concerned about the bureaucracy affecting the completion of some projects.

He said government has since granted permission to ZNS to procure all the needed materials to complete the construction works of Lusaka City and Simon Mwewa lane Markets.

And Lusaka Mayor CHILANDO CHITANGALA said the local authority is engaging vendors through their leaders to ensure they move into the markets once they are completed.

Meanwhile, ZNS Commander for Builders, Brigadier General PERRY SIACHOMBE has promised to complete the two markets within four weeks.
