DMMU RELEASES K300,000 TO FIGHT COVID-19 IN CB

(ZANIS) The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit – DMMU has released 300,000 Kwacha to help curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic on the Copperbelt Province.

Copperbelt DMMU coordinator, GEORGE AKALEMWA says this is an addition to the 500,000 disposable face masks which the office of the National Coordinator dispatched to the province to help fight the pandemic.

ZANIS reports that Mr. AKALEMWA said funds will go towards logistical support to the provincial health office to enhance operations, in terms of surveillance, testing and sensitization.

He said this in Ndola today during the handover of 12,500 face masks to Ndola based media houses.

Mr. AKALEMWA said the DMMU appreciates the role that journalists continue to play in informing society on various matters of development.

And Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary, BRIGHT NUNDWE has urged the DMMU in the region to ensure the lives of frontline officers such as Journalists are safeguarded.

Meanwhile, Mr. NUNDWE has urged companies engaged to produce oxygen to enhance production of the commodity to ensure lives are saved.

And journalists through their representative, CHIMWEMWE MWALE have appreciated the gesture which they said will boost their morale as they continue to perform their role of informing, educating and entertaining the masses.
