The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- has been directed by President Edgar Lungu to start taking relief food to flood prone areas in the country before the onset of the rains.

And DMMU National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe says his team will next week start the exercise, with Shangombo and Mitete Districts in Western Province.

Mr. Kabwe says relief Maize and Mealie -Meal will also be taken to Nabwalya, Luano and some parts of Eastern Province.

He says the DMMU will also move in to repair the crossing points that were washed away by rains in some parts of the country.

Mr. Kabwe told ZNBC News in Kawambwa that the DMMU is ready to respond and support the people in need.

He said President Lungu wants those in drought and flood-prone areas across the country to be assisted.
