DEVELOPED PARTIES DODGE CLIMATE CHANGE FINANCIAL COMMITMENTS

The African Group of Negotiators on Climate Change (AGN)is concerned with attempts by some developed Parties to divert their obligations of delivering financial resources to support implementation of climate action.

AGN Chair EPHRAIM SHITIMA says instead of focusing on the obligation, the parties decided to focus on identifying the nature of financial flows.

Speaking during the closing plenary of the Bonn Climate Conference of Subsidiary bodies, Mr. SHITIMA said the matter raised is different from providing and mobilizing support to developing countries, which is an obligation as provided in Articles of the Parties Agreement.

Mr. SHITIMA said the Paris Agreement is clear that developed countries should take the lead in the efforts to address climate change by enhancing their mitigation targets and provision on finance.

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change UNFCCC Executive Secretary SIMON STIELL,said the response to the Stocktake will determine the success of parties of COP28, and the success in stabilizing the global climate.
