DEC arrests 22 year old man for heroin possession

Brian Mwale-The Drug Enforcement Commission -DEC- has arrested a 22 year old man for trafficking in over 4.5 kilogrammes of heroin.

DEC Public Relations Officer HUSSEIN KHAN has identified the suspect as ANDREW KALILO who has since been charged with Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Importation of Narcotic Drugs.

Mr. KHAN says KALILO of Lusaka’s Matero township was apprehended at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka as he was coming from Benin via Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

He says a search of his luggage by DEC officers led to the discovery of 4.7 kilogrammes of heroin that was concealed in tablets of soap.

And Mr. KHAN has revealed that the Commission has also arrested ALLAN MUVUNDO for Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, Disorderly Conduct at DEC Premises and Escaping from Lawful Custody.

He further says Police investigations are ongoing on the shooting of a bystander by MUVUNDO who had escaped from the DEC premises on 15th July.

Mr KHAN says MUVUNDO was apprehended in a special operation conducted at a known hotel in Lusaka and a body search led to the discovery of 0.57 grammes of cocaine and one round of ammunition.

He says another search was also conducted at MUVUNDO’s house in Kalingalinga where a pistol was recovered with four rounds of ammunition.

Mr. KHAN tells ZNBC News that another pistol with 17 rounds of ammunition was recovered in Mumbwa.

He says the same pistol recovered is the one MUVUNDO brandished when he escaped from the DEC premises and in the process shot an innocent bystander in the arm.

Mr. KHAN has told ZNBC News in a statement that the two are detained in lawful custody and will appear in court soon.
