CROCS, CHAMBISHI EDGE CLOSE TO SUPER LEAGUE QUALIFICATION as Kashikishi Warriors get demoted

By Patson Kawewe | June 6, 2021

Chambishi football club this afternoon beat relegation strugglers National Assembly by a 2-1 scoreline to brighten their chances of playing Super League football for the first time in 11 years.

The victory moved Chambishi to 53 points, three points ahead of 5th placed Mufulira Wanderers, this was Coach Elijah Chikwanda’s first win in two games having lost his first game in charge to fellow promotion chasers Kafue Celtic.

At OYDC, Kafue Celtic’s dominance continued as they saw offer Mpulungu Harbour 3-0 in an entertaining encounter watched by Red Bull Salzburg talisman Patson Daka.

The Crocs started the game on a high as expected and found the back of the net in the first 20 minutes through Andrew Phiri, it was all Celtic after the goal and that eventually paid off in the second half as they increased their lead through Christopher Phiri who scored after some interesting build-up. The game was finally put beyond Coach Franklyn Malambo’s men when Christoper Bwalya fired home the third goal for the Crocs to increase his tally for the season to three goals.

After making history as the first team from Luapula to play in the National League, there was so much hope that Kashikishi Warriors will at least last two seasons in Zambia’s second-tier especially after the 2 million dollar investment promise which was made by Club owner Mr. Abraham Katumbi but unfortunately, that was not meant to be as they got relegated from the National League this afternoon after losing at home to promoted Super League side Konkola Blades.

Elsewhere, Livingstone Pirates beat Gomes 2-1 while Police College-handed relegated ZESCO Shockers 2-0.

ZESCO Malaiti Rangers played a 1-1 draw with the City of Lusaka.
