Covid has hindered malaria fight,Masebo says

Effie Mphande-Health Minister SYLVIA MASEBO says the Corona virus Disease has hampered the fight against malaria in the country.

Ms. MASEBO says Covid-19 has impacted negatively the distribution of insecticide treated nets and indoor residual spraying.

She was speaking in Mansa District – Luapula Province when she gave an update on Covid-19.

The Minister said cross border collaboration remains key because no country can unilaterally eliminate malaria.

Ms MASEBO urged Public Health Specialists to work with their counterparts in other countries to fight malaria.

She said the government will intensify malaria prevention measures such as distribution of insecticide treated bed nets and indoor residual spraying.

Meanwhile, the Minister said in the last 24 hours the country has recorded 1-thousand 2-hundred and 15 new COVID-19 cases out of 7-thousand 2-hundred and 67 tests conducted, giving a national positivity of 17 percent.

Ms MASEBO announced that seven people have died and that all of them were unvaccinated.
