Countries urged to Build Climate Change Warning Systems –  WMO

The World Meteorological Organization -WMO- has called on countries to invest in Infrastructure and technology as a way of building climate change warning capability.

Organization Assistant Secretary General WENJIAN ZHANG says the institution is still struggling to build global early warning systems on climate Change.

ZNBC’s MACPHERSON MUKUKA reports from Mozambique that Dr. WENJIAN says statistics show that majority of the nations are in need of early warning services and Meteorological infrastructure for climate change disaster detection.

And Mozambican Communication Minister MATEUS MAGAIA said there is urgent need to intensify establishment of early warning systems to protect people from impacts of climate change.

Meanwhile, Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- National Coordinator GABRIEL POLLEN said Zambia is working around the clock in setting up climate change Early Warning infrastructure.

And Water Development Permanent Secretary JOE KALUSA said Mozambique has provided a learning curve on the need to set up early warning systems in view of the adverse effects of climate change.
