COPS INVOLVED IN SOME ROBBERIES -MWIMBU

Home Affairs Minister JACK MWIMBU has revealed that some police officers are involved in the spates of armed robberies in Lusaka and Copperbelt Provinces.

Mr. MWIMBU has warned that such officers will be brought to book.

He says disorderly police officer risk being fired.

Mr. MWIMBU has bemoaned the criminality, corruption and indiscipline that have beleaguered the police Service.

He has on the other hand warned political party cadres to desist from intimidating police officers.

Mr. MWIMBU says the past trend where police officers were intimidated by political party cadres must come to an end.

He was speaking in Lusaka today during the commemoration of the Zambia Police Service day themed Police and the community: Together we can rebuild a relationship for a better tomorrow.

Meanwhile Inspector General of Police REMMY KAJOBA in a speech read on his behalf by Deputy Inspector General of Police in Charge of Administration DORIS CHIBOMBA said the police service is committed to rekindle its image.

Mr. KAJOBA admitted that the perception of the police in the eyes of the public has been eroded.
