Concession Agreement signed for Ndola -Sakania-Mufulira road

Government has signed a 76 million United States Dollars Concession Agreement for the development of the Sakanya border infrastructure and construction of the 61 kilometers Ndola -Mufulira road.

Infrastructure Housing and Urban Development Minister CHARLES MILUPI says the concession period is 22 years including three years of construction.

Mr. MILUPI says government is aware of the challenges that the people of Mufulira and the Copperbelt have been subjected to over the years.

He has also announced that government will in the next few weeks sign another agreement for the MUFULIRA- Mokambo road.

And Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister CHIPOKA MULENGA said the opening up of the NDOLA MUFULIRA road and the upgrade of border infrastructure at Sakanya will promote trade between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC.

And Copperbelt Minister ELISHA MATAMBO urged the concessionaire to subcontract locals as they execute the project.

Earlier, Public Private Partnership Council member NOEL NKHOMA said the signing of the concession for the NDOLA – MUFULIRA road and upgrade of border infrastructure will help government to take national resources to other sectors such as education and health.
