Tourism and Arts Minister Charles Banda has urged the private sector to complement government’s efforts in developing art in the country.
Dr. Banda says private sector intervention is critical in bridging the gap in the process of developing art which is an economic activity.
He says Arts can transform people’s lives through Job and wealth creation as well as empowering those interested including women and youths.
Dr. Banda said this during the official opening of the Visual Arts Gallery at Lechwe Trust Park in Lusaka last night.
Meanwhile, Lechwe Trust Chairperson Cynthia Zukas said the organization has plans of making the gallery a hub of activity for visual Arts in Lusaka.
Mrs. Zukas who is also wife of former Cabinet Minister, Simon Zukas said about four hundred works from the organization’s collection will be displayed in the gallery.
And National Arts Council of Zambia Chairperson Patrick Samwimbila said the gallery will impact positively on the Art sector as it will house a lot of paintings for artists who lack infrastructure for storing their work.
