COMMUNITY KEY TO ZAMBIA’S TOURISM

Tourism Minister, Rodney Sikumba says community responsibility for environmental and wildlife protection is key to Zambia’s Tourism development.

Mr. Sikumba says tourism is a multifaceted sector which requires inclusion of various stakeholders for its growth.

The minister was speaking in Livingstone before he flagged off a cleaning awareness exercise in the Mosi Oa Tunya National Park and surrounding areas as part of the tourism week celebrations.

He has praised stakeholders in the tourism industry for their commitment to the development of tourism and the destination Livingstone campaign.

Mr. Sikumba has also assured Zambians that his ministry is looking into ways of developing affordable local tourism packages to encourage domestic tourism and investment.

Speaking at the same event, World Wildlife Fund -WWF, Country Director, Nachilala Nkombo encouraged a continuation of cleanup programmes to help preserve wildlife.

Ms. Nkombo stated that wildlife is an important part of tourism thus the need to keep an environment that is friendly to the animals.
